Self-explanatory name used by both the usn and rn in the far east and pacific during world war ii. these self-contained units, normally called “monabs,” were equipped to service and repair aircraft, engines, and components as required for their respective fleets. some of the british monabs were also used as airfields and re-titled mobile operational naval air base.

[2] a mine laid in the normal way, but with its own propulsion system and homing device so that, when actuated by a ship’s magnetic signature, it is released to act like a homing torpedo.
