Stealthy submarines

Морской словарь
Every submarine is essentially stealthy, but some new designs have radar signatures no greater than that of a dolphin and can remain virtually undetected by current methods of location. submarines employing stealth technology are in service or being developed by almost every seafaring nation, including britain (astute class), china (types 0093 & 0094), france (barracuda class), iran (ghadir class), russia (borei class), sweden (gotland class), and the united states (seawolf & virginia classes).

Stealthy surface warships, английский
An early prototype was sea shadow, a usn experimental platform introduced in the mid–1980s with a security classification so high that (until 1993) it was only allowed out at night. as of the mid–2000s, many classes of warship employ varying degrees of stealth technology, including stateroom 308 britain’s type 45 destroyers, france’s la fayette frigates, germany’s sachsen frigates and braunschweig corvettes, india’s shivalik frigates, norway’s skjold patrol craft, singapore’s formidible frigates, sweden’s visby corvettes, and the usn’s zumwalt destroyers.

Submarine, английский
[1] generically, below the surface of the sea (e.g., submarine cable). [2] colloquially, any submersible vessel. [3] specifically, a craft (always called a boat) designed for underwater exploration or warfare, the latter usually being armed with torpedoes or guided missiles (see also attack, ballistic missile, and hunter-killer).

Submarine bank, английский
An extensive sandy plateau with deep water over it.

Submarine blast, английский

Submarine cable, английский
A cable designed to be laid underwater.

Submarine canyon, английский
A steep-sided valley on the continental slope. after decades of uncertainty and debate, the major mechanisms of canyon formation are now thought to be underwater landslides and turbidity currents.

Submarine chaser, английский
A small, fast, wooden-hulled naval patrol vessel specially designed for anti-submarine warfare using depth-charges. the sub-chaser (as it is popularly known) came into existence via an act of congress of 4th march 1917 which authorized president woodrow wilson “...to secure the more economic and expeditious delivery of ... submarine chasers....” it saw service in both world wars, but during the latter was gradually replaced by the destroyer escort. 313 submarine

Submarine escape immersion equipment, английский
A whole-body suit combined with a personal life raft, which has replaced the steinke hood in the usn submarine service.

Submarine integrated sonar system, английский

Technology, английский
  1. The use of tools and knowledge to meet human needs.

  2. Техника; технология

  6. Технология

  7. The body of knowledge about, and the systematic study of, methods, techniques and hardware applied in the adaptation of the physical environment to man`s needs and wants. the application of scientific knowledge to build or improve the infrastructure of agriculture, industry government and daily life. (technology must not be confused with the very infrastructure it generates). technology has autocatalytic properties. it favores the use of technical devices and processes even in solving social problems, e.g., by using fertilizers to enhance agricultural production rather than a different form of work organization, by using computers for national planning rather than decentralized decision making processes.

  8. The practical application of knowledge to achieve particular tasks that employs both technical artefacts (hardware, equipment) and (social) information (‘software’, know-how for production and use of artefacts). supply push aims at developing specifi c technologies through support for research, development and demonstration. demand pull is the practice of creating market and other incentives to induce the introduction of particular sets of technologies (e.g., low-carbon technologies through carbon pricing) or single technologies (e.g., through technology-specifi c feed-in tariffs).

Stealth technology, английский
A combination of techniques designed to minimize the signature or visibility of ships, aircraft, or ground vehicles to the human eye, satellite observation, radar, sonar, pressure, magnetic, or infrared methods. these include such things as: • external design that avoids radar-reflecting shapes and round protuberances in favor of sharp corners and flat surfaces. protruding and retruding surfaces tend to deflect signals at different angles. • internal construction involving re-entrant triangles. such structures trap signals by bouncing them toand- fro between internal faces. • composite panels of laminated carbon fiber and plastic. these materials tend to absorb rather than reflect incoming signals. • final treatment with energy absorbent paints or coatings. • minimization of wake disturbance by hydrodynamic control surfaces or, especially in shallow (brown) waters, by water jet propulsion.
