Early stopping

Глоссарий по искусственному интеллекту
A technique to avoid overfitting in neural network and other adaptive data modeling tools. essentially the data is divided into a training and validation set and the modeling technique is "detuned" to learn very slowly. as the model learns on the training set, the error in the validation set is monitored, and the learning (maximization) process is stopped when the error in the validation set starts to go up. in practice, the validation error can vary while it is still decreasing overall (and likewise can appear to decrease when the overall trend is upward). one approach to avoid this problem is to store the intermediate models while training the system to convergence and then back out to the true minimum (i.e., overshoot and correct). elaboration of this technique are available.

Ear, английский
  1. The organ of hearing and equilibrium in vertebrates, in humans consisting of an external ear that gathers sound vibrations, a middle ear in which the vibrations resonate against the tympanic membrane, and a fluid-filled internal ear that maintains balance

  4. Electronically agile radar (program)

  5. Engineering analysis report

  6. An organ on the side of the head which is used for hearing (note: for other terms referring to ears, see auricular and words beginning with ot-, oto-.) comment: the outer ear is shaped in such a way that it collects sound and channels it to the eardrum. behind the eardrum, the three ossicles in the middle ear vibrate with sound and transmit the vibrations to the cochlea in the inner ear. from the cochlea, the vibrations are passed by the auditory nerve to the brain. ear, nose & throat ear, nose & throat /?? n??z ?n ?r??t/

  7. A west-country term for a place where hatches prevent the influx of the tide.

Overfitting, английский
  1. A term used in neural networks, recursive partitioning, and other automated modeling areas. if the training data is considered to consist both signal and noise (i.e., noisy data), a modeling technique has begun to overfit when it begins capturing the "noise" instead of the "signal." this usually occurs when a model is allowed to increase its number of "parameters`` such as regression coefficients, splits in recursive partitioning schemes, or hidden units in neural networks. the effect of overfitting is to reduce the applicability of the model to other data sets, (i.e., to limit its generalizability). in the extreme, the model can only "predict" its input. the most straight-forward way to eliminate this effect is to require a very large number of observations per parameter in the model.

  2. A problem in data mining when random variations in data are misclassified as important patterns. overfitting often occurs when the data set is too small to represent the real world.

Bag of words representation, английский
A technique used in certain machine learning and textual analysis algorithms, the bag of words representation of the text collapses the text into a list of words without regard for their original order. unlike other forms of natural language processing, which treats the order of the words as being significant (e.g., for syntax analysis), the bag of words representation allows the algorithm to concentrate on the marginal and multivariate frequencies of words. it has been used in developing article classifiers and related applications. as an example, the above paragraph would be represented, after removing punctuation, dumplicates, and abbreviations, converting to lower-case and sorting as the following list: a algorithm algorithms allows analysis and applications article as bag been being certain classifier collapses concentrate developing for forms frequencies has in into it language learning list machine marginal multivariate natural of on order original other processing regard related representation significant syntax technique text textual the their to treats unlike
