A method for drawing samples from an arbitrary bounded continuous distribution. an initial value is drawn from a uniform distribution and the density at that value f(z0) is determined. any value zi with f(zi) > f(z0) is now a feasible value. the sampling is repeated. if f(zj) f(z0), the boundary of the sampling interval is contracted. if f(zi) f(z0), the current value of z is accepted. see also: gibbs sampling, markov chain monte carlo methods.
