A finishing process in which fabric, wound tightly on a perforated roller, either has hot water circulated through it (wet decatizing), or has steam blown through it (dry decatizing). the process is aimed chiefly at improving the hand and removing wrinkles.

- In leather, this is the process of die-cutting small holes to form a pattern. the holes can vary in size, density and pattern. railroading: cutting fabric on the cross grain, usually to avoid seams in large upholstered pieces. fabric is also referred to as railroaded when the pattern runs horizontally off the bolt. fabric with directional patters or pile (such as velvet) should not be railroaded.

A finishing process that raises the surface fibers of a fabric by means of passage over rapidly revolving cylinders covered with metal points or teasel burrs. outing, flannel, and wool broadcloth derive their downy appearance from this finishing process. napping is also used for certain knit goods, blankets, and other fabrics with a raised surface.
