- A relatively short period when a sailor is allowed ashore for recreation. see also shore leave.
- Permission to go on shore or ship-visiting.
- Permission to be relieved of all duties and be absent from a usn ship or station for less than 48 hours. the rn uses the term shore leave, but calls those who get it “libertymen” and sends them ashore in a “liberty boat.” authorized absence longer than 48 hours is called leave in both rn and usn.
