Pig, английский
- Gueuse

- Pendulous integrating gyroscope
- Panstwowy instytut geologiczny (poland)
- The pig was treated with great trepidation and respect by sailors because it had cloven hooves (like the devil). an ancient superstition of unknown origin, now seldom observed, is that use of the word pig on board ship would bring bad luck, so synonyms such as hog, sow, curly-tail, or porker were always substituted. combined with the shipboard ban on whistling, this led to many harbor-side taverns being called the pig and whistle to help seafarers realize they were ashore and could speak of the one and do the other. (see tattooing for a more beneficial pig-related superstition.)
