- Glasses which are worn in front of the eyes to help correct problems in vision comment: spectacles can correct problems in the focusing of the eye, such as shortsightedness, longsightedness and astigmatism. where different lenses are required for reading, an optician may prescribe two pairs of spectacles, one for standard use and the other for reading. otherwise, spectacles can be fitted with a divided lens (bifocals or varifocals).
