  2. (color deficiency) – a condition in which a person’s ability to distinguish colors and shades is less than normal. color blind is an incorrect term because only a small number of people are completely unable to identify any colors. color deficiencies are usually hereditary. acquired deficiencies may indicate a health problem. a cure for color deficiency has yet to be discovered. however, people with this condition can be taught to adapt and the ability to distinguish colors can be improved with the use of colored filters.

  3. More correctly called color vision deficiency, describes a number of different problems people have with their color vision. color vision deficiency is inherited and more common among men than women -- about 8% of males and less than 1% of females. this condition makes it difficult to distinguish certain colors or different shades of the same color.
