In medieval architecture, a brickwork revetment for ramparts on the side of a terreplein, or for counterscarps and gorges. contre-imbrication an ornamental pattern on a surface that forms overlapping elements which are below the general plane of the surface. this is in contrast to imbrication, in which the overlapping elements are above the general plane of the surface.
