The structure which forms the floor of an elevator car and directly supports the load. elevator car safety, counterweight safety a mechanical device attached to an elevator car frame or to the frame of the counterweight; slows down, stops, and holds the car or counterweight in the event of excessive speed or free fall of the car, or if the wire ropes slacken, break, or pull out of their fastenings.
