Poseidon

Морской словарь
[1] a 2-stage solid-propellant submarine- launched ballistic missile with multiple nuclear warheads. [2] the greek god of the sea—he and his brothers overthrew the ruling titans and drew lots to divide the universe between themselves, hades received the underworld, zeus the heavens, and poseidon the seas. he lived in a watery palace at aegae on the northern peloponnesus, from where he sortied across the waves in a two-horse chariot. he later became identified with the roman god neptune, and his spouse amphitrite with neptune’s wife salacia. (the line-crossing ceremony traditionally reverses the spouses to pair neptune with amphitrite.)

Identified, английский

Amphitrite, английский
This greek goddess, who was one of the oceanides, personifies the sea, of which she is queen. she is usually depicted in a seashell chariot drawn by marine animals, and homer calls her “she who beats the billows against the rocks, and has the creatures of the deep in her care.” according to legend, she was abducted by dolphins and carried to poseidon who married her. she is an important figure in the “crossing-the-line” ceremony. amphitrite is not to be confused with aphrodite, who is not a sea-goddess despite the legend of her origin.

Posh, английский
The origin of this synonym for luxurious and elegant is popularly believed to have originated when the luggage of wealthy travelers on the peninsular & oriental steam navigation company was labeled “posh” to signify they had paid for cabins on the shady and cooler side while in the inferno of the red sea, namely port outbound and starboard homeward. sadly, p&o cannot verify this ingenious explanation and the word may be an abbreviation of polished or, more probably, was adopted from the romany (gypsy) word posh which means money.

Portunus, английский
The roman god of harbors, who gave us the word “port.”
