    A search method used by systems that do not have a fixed approach to solving a problem. at various stages throughout the problem solving process, these systems can reevaluate their strategy for solving a problem. ops83 a derivative of ops5, this is a compiled language for use in production expert system. it also allows procedural programming in the form of a pascal-like language. it was developed at carnegie-mellon university and runs on a variety of computers. ops5 a language for building expert systems. it keeps knowledge in the form of if-then rules and supports a wide variety of control structures, and an efficient forward chaining interpreter. optical character recognition (icr) the process of converting the image of an item containing text into the character-based representation of the image. a distinct is often made between optical character recognition (ocr) and image character recognition(icr). in this sense, optical character recognition indicates a real-time process, with the recognition engine directly receiving input from an optical sensor, while image character recognition indicates that the recognition engine is working from a stored image and is not necessarily operating in real-time.
