A large, isolated sand dune whose base, in plan view, resembles a star, with sharp-crested ridges converging from basal points to a central peak that may be as high as 100 m above the surrounding plain. it tends to remain fixed for centuries in an area where the wind blows from all directions. compare - dune. gg
