- An infectious disease caused by the tuberculosis bacillus, where infected lumps form in the tissue. abbr tb comment: tuberculosis can take many forms: the commonest form is infection of the lungs (pulmonary tuberculosis), but it can also at- tuberculous 430 tack the bones (pott’s disease), the skin (lupus), or the lymph nodes (scrofula). tuberculosis is caught by breathing in bacillus or by eating contaminated food, especially unpasteurised milk. it can be passed from one person to another, and the carrier sometimes shows no signs of the disease. tuberculosis can be cured by treatment with antibiotics, and can be prevented by inoculation with bcg vaccine. the tests for the presence of tb are the mantoux test, the heaf test and the patch test; it can also be detected by x-ray screening.

- (от лат . tuberculum - бугорок), инфекционное заболевание человека и животных (чаще крупного рогатого скота, свиней, кур), вызываемое несколькими разновидностями туберкулезной микобактерии (устаревшее название - палочка коха, по имени р. коха, открывшего возбудителя в 1882). в пораженных органах (легкие, лимфатические узлы, кожа, кости, почки, кишечник и др.) развиваются мелкие бугорки со склонностью к распаду. основной источник заражения человека (обычно в детском возрасте) - больной туберкулезом легких, выделяющий мокроту с микобактериями туберкулеза. лечение (противотуберкулезные препараты в сочетании с гигиеническим режимом, при необходимости - с операцией) длительное, иногда в течение многих лет. в российской федерации создана сеть специальных противотуберкулезных диспансеров, больниц, санаториев.
- Хроническое заболевание, уходящее корнями в эпоху неолита, поражающее примерно населения земли; вызывается mycobacterium tuberculosis. заслуживает упоминания в словаре, т.к. представляет собой растущую эпидемиологическую проблему — кожная туберкулиновая проба, которая использовалась как простой дешевый метод скрининга, менее целесообразна в популяциях, где проводилась вакцинация бцж или есть много людей с вич, страдающих от иммунодефицита. 1 porter j.d.h., mcadam k.p.w.j. the re-emergence of tuberculosis. annu rev public health,1994; 15:303–323.
