Tuba di eustachio
Glossary of Anatomy (Italiano-Inglese) |
|
Eustachian tube, английский
- The tube which connects the pharynx to the middle ear. see illustration at ear in supplement [described 1562, but actually named after eustachio by valsalva a century later. bartolomeo eustachio (1520–74), physician to the pope and professor of anatomy in rome.] comment: the eustachian tubes balance the air pressure on each side of the eardrum. when a person swallows or yawns, air is allowed into the eustachian tubes and equalises the pressure with the normal atmospheric pressure outside the body. the tubes can be blocked by an infection, as in a cold, or by pressure differences, as inside an aircraft, and if they are blocked, the hearing is impaired.
- Small passage between the nasopharynx and the middle ear that allows pressure to equalize across the tympanic membrane
