Pig iron

Англо-русский глоссарий по металлургии
  1. Crude high-carbon iron ore that has been smelted and cast into ingots; may be remelted and used as a source of material for architectural cast-iron products, or may be further refined for use in producing steel. pigment 1. a finely ground inorganic or organic powder which is dispersed in a liquid vehicle to make paint; may provide, in addition to color, many of the essential properties of a paint—opacity, hardness, durability, and corrosion resistance. 2. coloring matter, usually in the form of an insoluble fine powder, used to color concrete, etc.

  2. This intermediate product of smelting is very brittle, cannot be forged, and is not useful directly except for limited applications. in the mid–18th century it progressively replaced stone and gravel for phonetic 240 ship’s ballast (see kentledge). the traditional shape of ingot molds was a branching structure that reminded ironworkers of a litter of piglets suckling on a sow. hence the name.

Iron, английский
  1. Fer;fonte

  2. A ductile, malleable, silver-white metallic element, scarcely known in a pure condition, but much used in its crude or impure carbon-containing forms for making tools, implements, machinery, etc.; symbol: fe; atomic weight: 55.847; atomic number: 26; spec

  3. Infrared optical nose

  4. 1. a chemical element essential to the body, present in foods such as liver and eggs 2. a common grey metal (note: the chemical symbol is fe.) comment: iron is an essential part of the red pigment in red blood cells. lack of iron in haemoglobin results in iron-deficiency anaemia. storage of too much iron in the body results in haemochromatosis.

  5. Colloquially, all derrick and drilling equipment above the heads of the men working on the drill platform.

  6. Any ferrous metal tool or part that must be fished from a borehole. also called junk.

Iron (iii) oxide,
