Nonresponse

    In surveys, it is rare that everyone who is ``invited`` to participate (everyone whose phone number is called, everyone who is mailed a questionnaire, everyone an interviewer tries to stop on the street…) in fact responds. the difference between the "invited" sample sought, and that obtained, is the nonresponse.

False discovery rate, английский
    In testing a collection of hypotheses, the false discovery rate is the fraction of rejected null hypotheses that are rejected erroneously (the number of type i errors divided by the number of rejected null hypotheses), with the convention that if no hypothesis is rejected, the false discovery rate is zero.

  1. In regression, the variable whose values are supposed to be explained by changes in the other variable (the the independent or explanatory variable). usually one regresses the dependent variable on the independent variable.

In regression analysis and other machine-learning methods, the objective of the analysis is to predict the value of an attribute correctly, either as a continuous response or as a classification. that target variable can be referred to as a dependent variable. see also: regression, regressor. depth-first search a search procedure in which each possibility is completely evaluated before beginning to evaluate other searches. when the search can be represented as a tree, a depth-first search would completely explore one branch before moving to other branches at that level. see also: breadth-first search.
