Strike valley

    Formerly known as a battle group, this usn term refers to a small fleet usually centered on an aircraft carrier, with an escort force of cruisers, destroyers, frigates, and attack submarines, armed with surface-to-surface, surface-to-air, and cruise missiles. one is usually a combat-control ship with aegis missile-tracking and fire-control systems which can direct weapons aboard the other ships in the group. others carry helicopters armed with antisubmarine torpedoes and anti-ship missiles. accompanying logistic-support vessels carry fuel, food, materiel, and munitions. an expeditionary strike group is a similar formation, with the addition of an amphibious ready group.
