- Silicone is known for providing a prettier look to formulas, preventing moisture from evaporating, and creating a blurring or smoothing effect on the skin. it`s the ingredient responsible for the �slip` in complexion products, most often found in personal care products such as serums, primers, foundation, and moisturizers. dimethicone, an oil-free silicone, is one of the most common. silicones are not necessarily a bad thing, but not all skin types sit well with them. some studies have also shown that silicone can worsen acne-prone skin concerns, trap bacteria in pores, and interfere with cell renewal.
