Readiness

Англо-грузинский словарь
A usn term indicating the required condition of a warship relative to its immediate task. readiness covers a range of items, including availability and crewing of weapons, state of propulsion machinery, maximum speed available, closure of watertight doors or hatches, and many other considerations depending on which of the following six conditions has been declared. • condition i: requires the ship to be closed for combat, with all hands at general quarters (battle stations). sub-divisions of this condition apply during: (1-a) amphibious operations (1-aa) threat of air attack (1-as) submarine alert (1-m) minesweeping (1-e) a temporary lull in combat • condition ii: still on high alert, but specified combat stations may stand down to minimize fatigue and some watertight doors may be opened. • condition iii: general state of readiness with only selected weapon systems and combat stations crewed and ready. • condition iv: normal peacetime sea duties. most combat systems un-crewed. • condition v: normal peacetime harbor routines. • condition vi: relaxed condition at moorings with only minimal personnel on board for fire and security watch. ready about!: command ordering a sailing crew to stand by to move onto the opposite tack.

Minesweeping, английский
The activity of detecting and destroying, removing, or neutralizing explosive marine mines. mines cut loose are either collected for intelligence analysis or destroyed by gunfire. • contact minesweeping: a special cutting wire is dragged though the water, either between two ships or between a ship and a paravane. when it hits the mooring wire of the mine it severs it. • distance minesweeping: a device towed behind the minesweeper emits sounds and magnetism that mimic the signature of a real ship, thereby exploding the mine. • airborne minesweeping: traditionally used towed cutter arrays and sleds equipped for acoustic and magnetic detonation, but flying with a tow is a difficult and highly-skilled activity. • advanced airborne techniques: have no in-water components, contributing to faster sweeps, easing pilot fatigue, and maximizing time on station. they include multiple sonars and electro-optical or laser sensors that scan large areas of ocean quickly, detect floating and moored mines down to at least keel depth, and detonate them with laser-aimed rapidfire cannon.
