    2. A nonvolatile solid or semisolid organic material, usually of high molecular weight; obtained as gum from certain trees or manufactured synthetically; tends to flow when subjected to heat or stress; soluble in most organic solvents but not in water; the film-forming component of a paint or varnish; used in making plastics and adhesives. resin-bonded descriptive of timber which has been glued with a synthetic resin.

    6. A solid or liquid compounding material, generally a solid or semi-solid, composed of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen; includes polyesters, polystyrenes and acrylics used in the manufacture of varnishes, plastics and elastomers. some lubricating resins are residual oils.

    7. Resin is a material used in some furniture and, in particular in artificial wicker or rattan for garden furniture. this all-weather resin wicker or rattan looks like natural wicker or rattan but is made of synthetic material that is sun and rain proof, so the furniture can be left outdoors all year long.

    Rosin, английский
    1. A yellowish or brownish solid, left after distilling oil of turpentine from the crude oleoresin of pine trees and other conifers. formerly called greek pitch or colophony, it is a component of caulking pitch, and is commonly used in varnishes, paint driers, printing inks, and for rubbing on the bows of such string instruments (precious metals such as gold or silver are often added to violin rosin, purportedly to enhance sound production, but one suspects mainly to increase profits).

    2. Rosining. to melt a resin and apply a coat to the right-handed threads of heated rod couplings; the coating sets when cooled which permits the rods to be used in the same manner as lefthand-threaded rods in fishing operations.
