Codag propulsion

Морской словарь
Combined diesel and gas turbine, refers to a propulsion system for ships which need a maximum speed (using the combined system) that is considerably faster (usually 50 percent) than their cruising speed with diesel power alone. linking the two power sources requires complex and potentially troublesome gearing, so an alternative is to let each system use its own drive shafts to turn smaller propellers. however, this is less efficient and the propellers of the idling system cause drag. codag propulsion is employed by norway’s nansen class frigates and germany’s koln class frigates.

Codage, французский
Première phase du processus de mémorisation qui consiste à transformer un stimulus sensoriel en une représentation pouvant être placée en mémoire

Codag–electric propulsion, английский
In this variation, each of the codag power sources is connected to a generator, and the propellers are driven by electric motors. this design is employed by rms queen mary 2 which mounts the propulsion motors inside pods and places the gas turbines directly under the funnel 75 codag–electric where fresh air is more easily accessed than in the engine room.

Codag–warp propulsion, английский
In this system the second acronym does not come from star wars, but refers to waterjet and refined propeller. two diesel engines drive two propellers in a codad arrangement, with a water jet powered by a gas turbine at the centerline. when idling the water jet causes no drag and—since its nozzle can be placed further aft and higher—it does not affect the size of the propellers.

Propulsare, латинский

Propulsion, английский
  1. (реактивное) движение; силовая [двигательная] установка; двигатель

  2. Cредства движения; движение

  3. Marine propulsion is the act of moving an object through the water or across its surface. poles, paddles, and oars were the earliest forms, while sails represented the most significant historical method. today, common types are underwater propeller, water-jet, paddle wheel and, experimentally, magnetohydrodynamic drive.

Propulsion systems, английский
Whether providing thwarts for oarsmen, masts for sails, bunkers and boilers for coal-fired vessels, or generators and motors for electrical propulsion, the primary concern of shipbuilders has always been to accommodate currently available systems rather than create new ones to fit individual hulls. even in modern merchantmen powered by diesel engines, gas or steam turbines, or hybrid-electric systems, the size and weight of propulsion machinery dictates ship design, reduces the space available for proa 250 passengers and goods, and inhibits the loading and discharge of cargo; while in warships, machinery and drive shafts occupy space which could otherwise be available for weaponry or ammunition. one partial answer seems be integrated electric drive, with which efficiency can be improved by taking surplus machines off-line and running the required generators at close to full output. moreover, electric drives can be placed further aft, reducing the length of propeller shafts for in-hull motors, or to zero for those in external pods. both the united states and royal navies have announced that their next generation surface warships will feature electrical propulsion. see also codad, codag, codag-electric, codag-wash, cogag, cogog, cosag, cycloidal drive, diesel-electric, direct drive, mhd drive, podded drive, propulsion machinery, stern drive, turbo-electric drive, and water jet.

Codad propulsion, английский
This acronym of combined diesel and diesel refers to a propulsion system using two diesel engines, connected by a gearbox and clutches that allow either or both of them to power a single propeller shaft.
