This british concept envisages a versatile and flexible maritime contribution to the overall defense mission, while retaining core emphasis on combat capability. as visualized, the future navy will have global reach and endurance, will adapt to change efficiently and effectively, and will be fully “interoperable” with future army and future air force as well as with other national and international military and civil partners in joint, combined, or integrated operations. based on the nato swing concept, the proposed versatile maritime force will have platforms and equipment that can deliver a range of military capabilities either simultaneously, or thorough operational, tactical, or strategic reconfiguration. simplicity of equipment operation and procedures, reinforced by effective training, will be essential in the future navy, because each seaman will have to be capable of handling multiple tasks rather than a single specialty.
