    A relaxation procedure is one that uses relaxation formulae to compute the values of a network of nodes iteratively. each node is initialized to an arbitrary value, and the value of the nodes are slowly relaxed from this values by recomputing a new value based on a weighted combination of its current value and a projected value computed from its neighboring nodes. when a new value is introduced into a node or set of nodes, the same procedure is applied until the network stabilizes. constraints can be added by creating specific relationships between the nodes and by adding fixed nodes. see also: constraint propagation.
