- Term referring to lakes, streams, rivers, canals, waterways, inlets, bays and the like.
- Unless otherwise specified by local ordinances, inland waters are those which lie shoreward of a line drawn through the outermost buoy, lighthouse, or other aid to navigation. not to be confused with internal or territorial waters.
- All of the waterways on land. the inland waterways of the united states include over 25,000 miles (40,000 km) of navigable waters. almost all of the navigable rivers and canals in the united states are in the eastern half of the country.
